Can you really make it "A Happy New Year"?

The truth is that every day we start afresh because it is the first day for the rest of our lives..... but when it is the start of the New Year, it becomes doubly special because than it truly is a new day, a new year, and a new opportunity for a fresh start.

We are burdened with the anxiety of expectations, be they our own expectations, the expectations of our family and friends or the larger expectations of the society. Isn't it true that we mould ourselves and wear the masks that reflect the society's expectations of us?

We all struggle to define ourselves and yet we don't take pause and try to understand what is it that we really want? It's definitely not the bells and whistles in the shape of all the material things that we accumulate in a lifetime spent in using the society as a measure and mirror of our self-esteem and satisfaction.

The latest mobile phones, snazzy watches, bespoke suits and dresses, or the race to show that I am superior, I have arrived does not really give long term lifelong satisfaction. The momentary pleasure derived from this one up man ship soon leaves a hollow feeling because truth be told if a man's journey is only reflected by his or her material accomplishments than it is indeed a life poorly spent.

So the start of the year is the time for reflection and introspection, to think deep about the purpose of life. To ponder how to live life fully.

Why is it that in today's modern society everyone feels cooped up?
Living an unsatisfactory life be it relationships or a job, feeling entitled to a better life and yet unwilling to make the time or effort to understand how to achieve it. Why does one consent to living a sham life only because it reflects the sociey’s respect, why do we forget and are knowingly or unknowingly willing to sacrifice what makes one truly happy.

So imagine that there are no boundaries, no restraints.
Imagine that you are free and not living in a box and then think what will make you happy? What is it that you would love to do if you were not caught in this web of expectations?

Come on, take the first step. Make a list of all that you would like to do, prioritise it.
Now map out what are the next steps that needs to be taken on this very important journey of accomplishing your dreams.

You have to decide what is the time that is being spent on activities that can be saved to pursue your dream? What are the expenditures that are going towards pampering your ego and can be utilised in more productive endeavours? Do you really need that dress or phone or car, or should that money be spent in ensuring that you can pursue your happiness objective?

So decide today since it's a new day, to become the master of your own destiny.
To understand what your dreams are and carve out a path that will take you to your destination.
Start taking the small steps because in the end always remember;
the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

New beginnings are always exciting!

After spending a lifetime in the high energy creative field of advertising, I decided that it was time for a new adventure. An adventure that aligned with my other life long pursuit, empowering youth by helping them connect with great opportunities. Education & Entrepreneurship... both open minds and stretch horizons and make the impossible possible. A phenomenon I have personally witnessed numerous times is the magic that happens when you help a young person discover the amazing possibilities that await them if they are willing to pursue their dreams by taking those difficult first steps. In a short span of a few years I have seen the magic and the resulting amazing transformations many times. I have been actively engaged in teaching since 1993 and mentoring startups since 2008 but my dream is to scale up the limited impact that I have had by mentoring and teaching a few to building a platform for Change that can reach out to millions. Change Mechanics is the beginning of t...
